iPhone users surpass WinMo users
It was bound to happen at some point. According to research firm comScore, more people now use Apple iPhones than all Windows Mobile devices.
Apple overtook Microsoft sometime between July and October, it seems. Back in July, there were 6.63 million people using the iPhone operating system versus 6.66 million using Windows Mobile. This past October, iPhone use jumped to 8.97 million people and WinMo had 7.13 million users, according to comScore.
Leading the U.S. mobile OS pack, however, was Research In Motion, which produces the popular BlackBerry line of smartphones. Apple was in second place and Microsoft was in third.
Five BlackBerry models were among the top phones people plan to buy within the next three months, comScore said. The only Windows Mobile phone comScore even included in its survey of 2,300 people was the HTC Tilt, which 1 percent of respondents said they planned to purchase.
The rest were BlackBerries, Palm devices, Google Android phones and the iPhone 3GS.
